“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor; Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Let’s take a page from a long-running TV game show, Let’s Make a Deal. Behind Door #1 there is a sense of panic and your blood pressure skyrocketed. Visions of family and friends invading your home, shopping lists that seem to go on forever, endless baking, searching for Grandma’s stuffing recipe and a prevailing sense of dread. And it’s only Thanksgiving!
Behind Door #2 there is a warm smile on your face, and you have this amazing peaceful feeling flowing through your veins. Here comes the season of gratitude, awe, wonder and peace. That time for reflection and anticipation is upon us.
I don’t know about you, but I definitely think Door #2 holds the Big Deal of the Day. We all have within us the ability to choose. Choose wisely my friends…
Shalom,
Linda Palmer
Executive Director
Women and men who selflessly give of their time, talents and treasure to ensure that the vision of two women over two decades ago is thriving and ensuring that the sanctity of life remains our ministry’s top priority. A working Board of Directors who know the unique responsibilities taken on with their “yes”, and their vision for GPOC’s future. And most importantly, a God Who call us to seemingly impossible tasks; Who is faithful to sustain us in moments of doubt and exhaustion; and keeps before us the knowledge of Who we humbly serve.
5 amazing moms, 6 beautiful children and 3 more babies on their way. A staff who are passionate about their work, volunteers who love holding babies, more volunteers who keep the campus beautifully maintained. Donors who just seem to know when to bless us with their treasures. A beautiful van to transport our moms and babies to their destinations. New, energy efficient windows and insulation in the Gabriel House to keep everyone snug and warm. New central air in the Clare House to keep everyone as cool as a cucumber.
Passionate volunteers in all ten counties that the GPOC serves. Colorado County is on fire! Their enthusiasm and willingness to serve are inspirational. Victoria County is currently serving approximately 22 moms and families. We have another 20+ moms on a waiting list to serve during their third trimester, or when God sends us more volunteers. Volunteers who keep our storeroom tidy and stocked, and our group of amazing volunteers trained and serving moms and babies. Donors who give materially and financially to ensure the families we serve have what they need to keep their babies safe and warm.
It only took a few minutes of being in the presence of Gilda Miller as she shared about her experiences volunteering as an Angel with the Gabriel Project to realize that she has been anointed with The Holy Spirit! Gilda has been a Gabriel Project Volunteer Angel for 14 years and counting. By trade she was a neonatal nurse, now retired, Gilda utilizes her vast Wisdom and Knowledge gained over 42 years in the medical field to benefit mothers, babies and volunteers in our programs.
As Gilda pondered the idea of retirement, she wondered if she would be able to give back or contribute to society in a meaningful way. Connecting with Gabriel Project has provided Gilda with a means to do just that! While lending her medical expertise to our Mother Baby Program she also shares her faith which is definitely contagious. Perhaps it’s the light of God shining in Gilda’s eyes and her welcoming smile that draws people near and encourages them to make their own spiritual connections. Gilda does not believe in coincidences or accidents – she knows God placed her at the Gabriel Project because it would be a perfect Fit! And she attests – He was right!
Gilda was raised on a farm in Victoria, Texas by her grandparents. The most prevalent memories from childhood is that her family always gave to others in need. Whether it was a place to sleep in the barn or an extra hot plate at the table – she witnessed giving to others as a normal thing to do.
Gilda’s gift of active volunteerism was ignited during her first visit to Honduras on a missionary trip. It was there where she encountered true poverty. She shared, that even though the people of Honduras were cooking outside in stone ovens, with no running or warm water – they were not aware they were poor. She explained, that they are a people that are happy and content and they make do with whatever means they have. She found this inspiring. Four missionary trips later, Gilda’s light was shining so bright that she was invited back to Honduras and asked to teach the nurses of the country something that would be life changing in their country. This was a request that required careful consideration. Soon Gilda realized that if the people who lived in the mountainous range of Honduras were to help themselves they needed to learn to utilize available resources.
For instance, the missionary groups taught Hondurans how to grow crops in unused fields and how to build houses out of stone instead of using tin and sticks.
Gilda’s experience in Honduras transcends her methodology and purpose of missionary work here at the Gabriel Project. This is why she stresses the importance of connecting with community resources to all of our moms in the Gabriel Project programs, as well as, to mothers living at the Bethlehem Maternity home.
Gilda also disclosed that one of the biggest gifts of giving of oneself, is knowing that your efforts helped make positive changes in the trajectory of someone’s life. That accompanied with the power of witnessing the mental and spiritual growth in the moms and volunteers she mentors empowers her to continue sharing her love of Jesus Christ, to those in need of grace.
Not only does Gilda inspire people in our programs and our volunteers but she also sets an awesome example for volunteerism in her own family. Her daughters and granddaughters also enjoy volunteering for The Gabriel Project. The Gabriel Project offers many opportunities for volunteerism not only acting as an angel helping families in need, but also behind the scenes work like wrapping presents at Christmas Time. By the way, her granddaughters love wrapping Christmas presents!
We are blessed to have Gilda Miller representing The Gabriel Project of the Crossroads supporting moms in crisis pregnancy. Her commitment to volunteerism and genuine caring and compassion is a perfect example of our Mission! We are honored to have Gilda mentoring our moms and training our volunteers to become better citizens of our community as we all grow in faith together.

Meet Gilda Miller, Education Coordinator for The Gabriel Project of the Crossroads. Gilda has been serving the Gabriel Project for 14 years and has no intentions of quitting any time soon!
It is a great time for the Angels to reflect on the moms and babies they have served and be humbled by their unique call to women experiencing crisis pregnancies. 2023 is no exception. We have already made our lists and have begun planning what each gift basket (a laundry basket) will contain. Bibs, Christmas sleepers, rattles, books, handmade blankets for the baby. And of course, things for the mom and dads like plush blankets, lotions, a family game, towels and other personal items. This is also the time of year we ask for our donors’ help in restocking items we give all year in our diaper bags and Mom bags. We would also be happy to email you our wish list to share with your church or service organization or click the button below.
